Doug has expertise in all facets of shoulder and knee surgery.

Doug’s special interests include Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopic, Reconstructive and Replacement Surgery.

Doug has been in private practice in Melbourne since 2005. He has since performed more than 10000 shoulder and knee surgeries. Ranging from routine arthroscopies and replacements to complex reconstructions.

Not all patients need surgery, and Doug will endeavour to manage your condition with non-operative treatment. Doug will only consider surgery if your symptoms persist.

Doug’s main rooms are in East Melbourne. He also consults in Blackburn, Caroline Springs, Mulgrave and Rowville.

Doug operates at St Vincents Private and Epworth Freemasons Hospitals in East Melbourne, and Glenferrie Private Hospital in Hawthorn.

Additional Information

Doug was born and educated in Melbourne and attained his medical degree at Monash University in 1992.

He completed his Orthopaedic surgery training with the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2001 and was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2002.

Doug gained further subspecialty training in Shoulder and Knee surgery with Fellowship positions in Scotland and Ireland from 2002-2004. His supervisors were all internationally renowned surgeons in their field, and taught Doug the more intricate aspects of shoulder and knee surgery.

Doug has held public appointments at The Alfred Hospital and Western Health. Providing health care to Victorians still remains a rewarding part of Doug’s professional life.

Doug also held a position as an Honorary Lecturer with Monash University Medical School. He was involved in teaching orthopaedic trainees and medical undergraduates.

Doug finds great satisfaction in observing junior doctors develop into trusted colleagues. He enjoys fostering the strength of the Orthopaedic and medical community through the sharing of knowledge and experience.

On a personal note, Doug is married with three sons. He is a keen golfer and an avid Richmond supporter.
